The right choices are often obvious.
Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Eat a fruit instead of an unhealthy snack. Study an extra hour. Go to bed early.
I think something I’ve noticed is that people tend to overcomplicate life too much. We debate how we should spend our time or overthink what restaurants we should eat at, but if I’m being honest most of the time the right choices are staring at us right in the face.
If I want to get better physically, I need to hit the gym daily and not eat garbage food. If I want to do better academically, it’s by going to the library and opening my review notes. If I want to improve myself mentally, spiritually, financially, emotionally, or any -ally, it’s by extremely obvious habits that I somehow seem to miss so much of the time.
A few weeks ago, I wrote down a list of what a physically productive day would entail. I’ll write just a small portion of them here: weight lift daily, drink a protein shake daily, take creatine daily, stretch daily, and do cardio daily. Combined these can take no more than an hour.
But what frustrates me is the fact that even though all of these are so obvious, somehow I manage to miss almost all of them everyday.
I don’t really know why I haven’t been consistent with those physical goals of mine, I guess I just unconsciously go throughout life and let the days slip by. And honestly that’s a pretty scary thought: to unconsciously go throughout life without actually growing closer to the goals I really want.
There’s no reason I can’t become a better version of myself if I just follow simple but healthy habits over and over again. And so there’s really no excuse to not be the best person I can be.
